By Steven Young | NLRA.org On Saturday night, July the 23rd, the NLRA will head west for the 18th time in series history to the Devils Lake Speedway near Crary, ND. The track hosted two series events last season, and is scheduled to do so again this season. Last season, Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom and Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Longhorn split the season series in Devils Lake last season. Seng fended off challenges by Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Black Diamond, during the July visit.
Strand stole his victory from Ricky Weiss, driver of the No. 7 A.I.E. Communications Rocket, on the final turn of the final lap, winning by 48 one-hundredths of a second, last August. Four NLRA drivers picked up top fives in both visits last season. Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Emerson Duty Free MasterSbilt, and Ricky Weiss, joined Seng and Strand in that category, while Mike Balcaen and Steffen Snare, driver of the No. 71S Todd's Electric Bloomquist, scored top tens during both events. Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MasterSbilt, Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors MB Custom, Brian Strand, and Darrell Bauer earned top ten finishes last July. Dusty Peterson, Norm Olson, Jeff Hapala, driver of the No. 16S City Parcel Delivery Rocket, and Tom Corcoran, driver of the No. T1 D&B Motors Rocket, ran inside the top ten last August. Seng will carry a 40 point lead over Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 General Signs Victory by Moyer, Strand, who will enter Devils Lake as the most recent series winner last Sunday in West Fargo, is currently third in the standings. Cole Schill, sits atop the winners list this season with his pair of wins in Greenbush and West Fargo in a six day stretch in June, and is fourth in the standings, with Mike Balcaen, the series winner at River Cities on June 17th, rounding out the top five. Steffen Snare currently sits sixth in the standings, with Jeff Hapala seventh, Jason Storbakken, driver of the Storbakken & Sons Const. No. 16S eighth, Ryan Corbett, driver of the No. C4 Dempsey's Truck Service MasterSbilt ninth, and Tom Corcoran completing the top five. Quick HitsBrad Seng won at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg last Thursday night, Mike Balcaen finished third, Shane Edginton was fourth, with Bill Mooney fifth, and Ryan Corbett in eighth. Casey Meyer won at the I-94 speedway in Fergus Falls last Friday night, Kevin Robertson finished third in the No. 10R Nugget Vending MasterSbilt. Cole Schill finished seventh, with Erik Robertson running ninth in the Joe Rents No. 9R. Jeff Hapala ran tenth, while Mike Balcaen and Cody Skytland were DNF's. Races at the River Cities Speedway and the Viking Speedway were lost to rain.
