By Mike Spieker CRARY, N.D. (June 9, 2018) – Fresh off a win Thursday night at Red River Co-op Speedway in Winnipeg, Shane Edginton dominated Saturday night’s WISSOTA Late Model feature, presented by Bjorlie Construction, for his first win of the season at Devils Lake Speedway. Edginton jumped out to the early lead over polesitter, Brody Troftgruben, on the opening lap as Dustin Strand moved into second. The race was slowed by the caution flag with 10 of 25 laps in the books.
On the restart, Troftgruben got around Strand for second and went after Edginton for the lead. Troftgruben and Edginton went door to door for the lead as they crossed the line to complete lap 11. Troftgruben pushed slightly in turn one, which allowed Edginton to regain the lead down the back straightaway. Strand looked to steal second from Troftgruben, but the sophomore Late Model driver put his No. 14 machine back on the high side and held on to the spot. Edginton went on to take the win over Troftgruben and Strand as Bill Mooney and Troy Schill rounded out the top five. Lance Schill led all 20 laps of the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature en route to the win. Schill, who also won Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn., started on the outside of the front row and took the lead over Todd Johnson on lap one. Austin Hunter moved by Johnson for the second spot on lap four before having his hands full with Ryan Schroeder. Schroeder grabbed second for two circuits over the halfway point, but Hunter was able to power by on lap 12. Schill went on to take his second consecutive win at Devils Lake by a margin of 1.449 seconds over Hunter. Johnson, Eric Haugland and Schroeder rounded out the top five. The win marked Schill’s eighth of the 2018 season. Steven Richards picked up his first WISSOTA Street Stock feature win of the season. Richards started seventh on the grid, but moved into second by lap four. From there, Richards followed leader James Meagher until the closing laps. Richards moved into the lead with three laps to go and took the win over 13th place starter, Bradon Miller. Meagher, Daniel Aberle and Brian Johanson rounded out the top five. Drew Wilhelmi scored the Circle Track Mini Truck win, while Colton Laber picked up his second consecutive Pure Stock victory. Next Saturday night at Devils Lake Speedway will be a big one. The Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints and Canadian-American Outlaw Sprints will be back in action. The NLRA Late Models will return to Devils Lake as well, featuring World of Outlaws driver, Donny Schatz, who will be racing his No. 15 Late Model. The Professional Dirt Series (excluding the Midwest Mods) will also be racing, including a $750-to-win Street Stock special. Green flag drops at 7pm.
