By Mike Spieker CRARY, ND (June 4) – The NOSA Sprints were back in action Saturday night with their second appearance of the season at Devils Lake Speedway. The three heat race wins went to Cory Mack, Austin Pierce and Wade Nygaard to start the night. The 25-lap, 19-car main event lined up with Casey Mack and Bob Martin on the front row. Mack took the lead on the initial start, but the yellow was quick to follow as something locked up on the #26 machine of Blake Egeland causing him to slow. Jordan Graham had nowhere to go and piled into the back of Egeland, ending both of their nights. A complete restart ensued and Mack regained the lead with Nick Omdahl in tow. The red flag would bring the race to a halt on lap four after five cars piled up on the front straightaway. Alex Larson, Bob Martin, Tanner Wisk, and Shane Roemling were all able to continue, while Lawrence Veralrud was the only driver who had to retire from the event.
Mack led the charge off of turn four to the green flag once again as Omdahl and Austin Pierce followed. Pierce was the lone driver in the top five running the high side. It wasn’t quite working for him at first as Jade Hastings moved by the Opp Construction #2A to take the third position. However, in the latter half of the race Pierce was able to dust off the top shelf and became one of the quickest cars on the track. Mack found himself in lapped traffic in the final laps, which allowed Omdahl, Hastings and Pierce to close in. Omdahl was within striking distance with two circuits remaining, but Mack rode the low line with perfection and held off the ICON #0 of Omdahl to pick up his first win of 2016. “This feels awesome,” said Mack in victory lane. “I always say that I like to get the wins early because it takes the pressure off you to get that first one. It helped starting up front tonight. Once I got the lead, I just pushed as hard as I could for 25 laps. The car was awesome; Ricky and Don are the ones who got this thing in victory lane tonight.” Pierce snuck by Hastings to finish in third, while Cory Mack rounded out the top five.
